3 steps to fill a new cask with Whisky New Make

Updated: Apr 27

Step 1 To fill a new cask with Whisky New Make, start by rolling the 50kg empty barrel to the heart of the Spirit Tank. While lifting it by hand is impossible, its design makes rolling straightforward with the right technique.

To change direction, use both hands—push harder with your right hand to turn right and with your left hand to turn left.

Once you’ve reached the destination, ensure the bung hole is facing up. If it’s not, make 180-degree turns by pushing the barrel forward and backward to adjust the angle.

Step 2: Measure and record the alcohol strength of the liquid. This batch is about 63% ABV.

When filling the cask with a motor pump, be careful not to exceed the 200L maximum capacity.

Step 3: Use a new wood bung plug and hammer it securely into the hole. Ensure it’s tightly sealed to prevent leaks—this cask won’t be opened for another 3 years.

Now, it’s ready to roll! Move this 250-kilogram cask into the aging facility, where the magic of maturation begins.
